Grow Light Stand: The DIY Model

I think that growing, just like brewing allows one to imagine different ways of doing things. I could not see spending $60+ on a stand to just hold a light over a flat and eventually an ebb/flow pot. So after a quick sesh with pen and pad, I rode down to the local hardware store here in Durango and picked up some 1″ pvc pipe and a handful of fittings and came back home with another project.

After some meticulous measuring and then some cutting, here are the fittings laid out.

After some thought and dry fitting, I assembled the pieces. My goal was to have some structurally sound enough but also light weight and portable. For the first stage of the grow light I needed enough span to hang a 24″ T5 grow light.

General Hydroponics Water Farm

After quite a bit of research on building my own system or going with a pre-made setup I opted to go with the Water Farm. It isn’t an expensive or elaborate ebb/flow system and I felt it will be a great learning tool to get me going in my hydroponic growing experience. I purchased locally at Blue Sky Hydroponics. Really nice shop and had everything I needed to get started.
